It is with great pleasure that we invite you to historic Winchester for the 2023 spring scientific meeting of the BPNS, hosted by the Wessex Neurological Centre, Southampton. The venue will be the Winchester Guildhall, in the heart of the city, just moments from Winchester Cathedral.
The meeting will be held in the King Alfred Conference Chamber and the adjacent Wintonian room for catering and sponsors. The meeting will be a mix of invited lectures, case presentations, and the postponed 2022 AGM. The first session will start at 10 am and the meeting will finish at 5:30 pm. Invited lectures will be on the subjects of:
Peripheral nerve injury – surgical management and the roles of neurophysiology
Paraproteinaemic neuropathy – Future therapeutic targets
FcRn – A new treatment target for antibody mediated neurological disease
The final programme will be announced in due course (current programme is listed under 'IN PERSON' meeting). We welcome submissions of abstracts for the case presentations via the website. The deadline for submissions is the 6th of March 2022. Written consent is required from any patient being presented at any BPNS meeting and added to our website case library (this does not apply to deceased patients). Please ask your patient to sign the consent form, then file this in the hospital notes or your own records. The BPNS does not require a copy of the consent form, merely your honest statement that one has been signed. If written consent has not yet been obtained, an abstract may still be submitted, but the submitter must confirm to the meeting organiser or Case Library Editor at least one week before the meeting that written consent has been obtained, otherwise it cannot be presented (but may be postponed to a future meeting).
A £500 prize for the best trainee presentation, as judged by members of the BPNS Council, is again on offer at the meeting.
The meeting will be a hybrid, both available virtually and in person – we hope that most of you will join us in person (registration fee is the same if attending virtually or in person). To help us with catering numbers please register in advance. Please book your tickets via the ‘Book Tickets’ link below. Please book before the 3rd March. Booking after the 3rd will incur the non-member registration rate and we will not be able to guarantee you lunch. If you wish to attend in person, DO NOT BOOK HERE, but choose the 'IN PERSON' meeting on the 'Upcoming Meetings' page and book there. The Zoom link will be provided to virtual registrants in the week before the meeting though the email used to book (if a member and unsure, click on 'Edit Profile' under the 'Members' drop-down menu).
Cost is £20 for associate members, £40 for ordinary members and £60 for non-members. Due to PayPal changes, our usual payment system through the website doesn't work, so instead sign up for the meeting below without paying upfront and then pay separately through PayPal, either by searching for aisling.carr@nhs.net through PayPal or more simply by typing PayPal.me/bpns22 into your web browser. You do not usually need a PayPal account to pay via Paypal, however much Paypal encourage you to sign up. You can pay using a credit or debit card as long as the account has been configured to accept such payments; contact Treasurer@bpns.org.uk if problems.
Catering: Please register early and if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies, please highlight these on the form at the bottom of this page at time of booking.
After the meeting we have arranged a dinner, open to all attendees, at the renowned Hotel du Vin, with its majestic dining experience, a short walk from the venue and close to the train station. We encourage you to join us for this special subsidised event starting with a drink reception at 6.15 pm and an early dinner at 6.45 pm to allow members to travel back home in reasonable time. Please also book this via the website Events section. The local organisers are Dr David Allen and Dr Haider Katifi.
