This will be an all day meeting starting at 10.00 and finishing around 17.30, located at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The programme will include the usual miscellaneous clinical case presentations. There will be guest lectures on MicroEMG: towards electrical imaging of muscle by Dr Roger Whittaker, and Update on hereditary motor neuropathies by Prof. Rita Horvath. The Discussion Forum will be on Ulnar Neuropathy at the Elbow chaired by Dr Jeremy Bland and Dr Richard Orrell.

The local organiser is Dr James Miller.

We encourage registration in advance by clicking Book Tickets at the bottom. Members should log in first to benefit from a reduced registration fee. Advance registration will close on Wednesday 8th March. Registration on the day is possible but will incur a £10 surcharge. If you decide not to register in advance, please at least email secretariat@bpns.org.uk in advance to advise of your intention to attend so we know numbers for catering. We are grateful to our sponsors from the pharmaceutical industry for supporting this meeting.

The deadline for abstract submission is Monday 6th March. WRITTEN CONSENT is required from any living patient before their case history may be presented at any BPNS meeting or added to our website (this does not apply to deceased patients). Please ask your patient to sign the consent form, then file this in the hospital notes or your own records. The BPNS does not require a copy of the consent form, merely your honest statement that one has been signed. If written consent has not yet been obtained, an abstract may still be submitted, but the submitter must confirm to the meeting organiser or Case Library Editor at least one week before the meeting that written consent has been obtained, otherwise it cannot be presented (but may be postponed to a future meeting).

The Triennial BPNS Teaching Course on Peripheral Neuropathy aimed at registrars is the day before (separate registration required through BPNS website).

Venue: New Education Centre within the Royal Victoria Infirmary.  This recently completed lecture theatre is conveniently located a five minute walk from Haymarket metro station in Newcastle city centre.

Travel directions: Newcastle is easily accessed by train.  From Newcastle Central station it is a short taxi ride, a 20 minute walk or 2 stops on the metro from the train station to Haymarket. On foot from Haymarket metro, either walk through the university campus, or up St Thomas Street, until you reach Queen Victoria Road. To access the New Education Centre, enter via the Peacock Hall entrance.  The Education centre is signposted on the right after around 50 metres.  There is limited multistorey parking on the RVI site accessed from Queen Victoria Road (NE1 4LP).  Other nearby parking includes Claremont Road (NE2 4AN) and St. James’ Park (NE1 4SE) but bear in mind that these are busy as located close to city centre businesses and shopping.

New UK Charity for Peripheral Neuropathy

The BPNS wish to facilitate setup of a new charity for peripheral neuropathy in the UK.  There is no charity or association in the UK which supports people with all the many causes of peripheral neuropathy.  Only a few specific causes of neuropathy have a UK charity, such as CMT-UK, GAIN and Diabetes UK.  There is no UK charity to support idiopathic neuropathy, painful small fibre neuropathy (except general pain charities), brachial neuritis, carpal tunnel and entrapment neuropathies, chemotherapy neuropathy (except cancer charities), etc. Several people have come forward to assist with this and work is progressing to get the new charity up and running.
