Presentations from this meeting  - available to attendees and members

The one-day BPNS Teaching Course on Peripheral Neuropathy will be on Thursday 16 March 2017. This special educational event happens only once every three years. The speakers are top experts in the UK in their fields. Don't miss this opportunity to hear them all together.

It is aimed primarily at registrars in neurology and clinical neurophysiology, but in providing an update on clinical diagnosis and management will also be of value to consultant neurologists and neurophysiologists, general physicians, and any professional seeing patients with peripheral neuropathy. Programme is below. Advance registration will close on Wednesday 8th March. Registration on the day is not possible as the meeting is very heavily subscribed. Anyone who wishes to attend and misses advance registration must contact the BPNS Administrator to confirm whether attendance is possible.  Teaching Course attendees are welcome to attend the main BPNS meeting the following day on 17th March (separate registration fee required).

Venue: New Education Centre within the Royal Victoria Infirmary.  This recently completed lecture theatre and education rooms is conveniently located a five minute walk from Haymarket metro station in Newcastle city centre.

Travel directions: Newcastle is easily accessed by train.  From Newcastle Central station it is a short taxi ride, a 20 minute walk or 2 stops on the metro from the train station to Haymarket. On foot from Haymarket metro, either walk through the university campus, or up St Thomas Street, until you reach Queen Victoria Road. To access the New Education Centre, enter via the Peacock Hall entrance.  The Education centre is signposted on the right after around 50 metres.  The James Spence lecture theatre is located at the end of a short corridor opposite the New Education Centre on the left before the cafeteria.  There is limited multistorey parking on the RVI site accessed from Queen Victoria Road (NE1 4LP).  Other nearby parking includes Claremont Road (NE2 4AN) and St. James’ Park (NE1 4SE) but bear in mind that these are busy as located close to city centre businesses and shopping.

Catering: Included within the registration fee are tea, coffee, soft drinks at registration, mid-morning and mid-afternoon as well as lunch.  Please highlight on the form at the bottom of this page if you have any special dietary requirements at time of booking.  Refreshments will be served in adjacent meeting rooms and the mezzanine area. Dinner is not included in the registration fee.  Please state at time of registration whether you would wish to attend a delegates dinner (email secretariat@bpns.org.uk) at a private dining room at the Artisan (http://artisannewcastle.com/).  There is an opportunity to view the gallery prior to the meal.  The additional set menu cost of £37.50 will be requested separately prior to the meeting.  Please note there are only 22 places (including speakers).

Accommodation: Delegates are responsible for booking their own accommodation.  There are several hotels of varying price range which are located adjacent to the train station or between this and the RVI, including Premier Inn (Newgate Street), Hampton by Hilton (Neville Street), Hotel Indigo (Fenkle Street) and Crowne Plaza (Stephenson Quarter).

Refund policy for registration fee: cancellation before midnight 8th March – full refund less £5 administration fee. No refund if cancellation after this.

New UK Charity for Peripheral Neuropathy

The BPNS wish to facilitate setup of a new charity for peripheral neuropathy in the UK.  There is no charity or association in the UK which supports people with all the many causes of peripheral neuropathy.  Only a few specific causes of neuropathy have a UK charity, such as CMT-UK, GAIN and Diabetes UK.  There is no UK charity to support idiopathic neuropathy, painful small fibre neuropathy (except general pain charities), brachial neuritis, carpal tunnel and entrapment neuropathies, chemotherapy neuropathy (except cancer charities), etc. Several people have come forward to assist with this and work is progressing to get the new charity up and running.
